OK, I bailed on tonight's fixie ride. Let's try again tomorrow.
What: A two hour fast-paced group road ride
Where: Bike World in Ames
When: 5:00 PM
Why: Umm, 'cause getting dropped by fast guys makes you faster?
Details: Bring your "A" game. I got dropped last week, but that ain't saying much.
Forecast: Partly cloudy, with a high near 41. Windy, with a north northwest wind between 18 and 23 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph.
OK, the forecast is less than ideal, but I need to do a fast-paced ride, windy or not. I've ridden in worse conditions.

i saw below that you're looking to do some long stuff over the weekend...some of us college kids (well me at least) want to do 3-4 hours both saturday and sunday...meet at 2pm at the memorial union fountain both sat and sun...you're more than welcome to come join us...nothing killer fast, just endurance riding :)
That fits with my schedule. I'll see you Saturday at 2 PM at the fountain. Your endurance riding is my zone four. Nice work last weekend!
I can't make it tomorrow, I have to teach a bike maintenance class for work. 2 hours of fixing brakes and rusty chains!!! I'm planning on next week though.

Phew, rode into work/class today and it is nasty out there. I went for a quick 40 mile ride Monday. But pending I have to do for work I'll try to get there. I'll put another comment here if I'm not going to be able to make it.
We can definitely talk 29ers. Squirrel mentioned he likes his KM. I like the options (SS, vbrakes), the geometry, and the scandium on the Kona. You should also consider a Niner brand.
Niner's what I'd do, if I weren't building my own 29er frame in a couple months.
Niner S.I.R. is my pick. Steel, eccentric bottom bracket and cable guides for gears if'n'you'wanna.
I'd agree, but for 853 they built it really hefty for the SIR9. Steel is real, but for that weight you might as well save the 300-400 bucks. I think the SIR9 is about 4.5 lbs. Their EBB is nice though. These comments are good though:

I'm building mine with paragon sliders. I'd heard about the creaking issue, but wasn't aware of any sticking. Come to think of it, Paul had some trouble with his Rig's eccentric. I don't know if that is a proprietary design for Fisher, so maybe all aren't a handful. Still, since I started oogling several years back Soulcraft, I've been sold on sliders.

I think there are a couple eccentrics out there. I don't know about all of them. But you definitely want the set screw style. You don't want the style that clamps the eccentric like a seat post binder. Those would definitely creak. Soulcraft knows what's up. They focus on weld quality a lot more than tubing type.
