Typing one handed

I'll be typing things one-handed for the next 4-6 weeks, cause i broke my collarbone tonight. crap!

I took some pictures of their pictures . . .

My lovely wife accompanied me.

Nice threads, huh . . .

I was out riding my bike with charlie (the dog), and he cut right in front on me and took out my front wheel. i went down hard on me left shoulder. i got up, and immediately knew what i'd done. suprisingly it didn't hurt that much, as long as i kept my arm still. if i moved my arm, it was another story. btw, the dog is fine. and btw, we were at the end of the ride, and i was 150 feet from the house. i guess charlie was in a hurry to get home.

like i said, last sunday was my last race for the season. is that good timing or what?

oh, well. let the winter rest begin . . .

Holy crap, Paul. Been there done that with the dogs. I tore my rotator cuff when Max took the front wheel out from under me last year.

Here's to a steady healing process. Time will heal it, but it takes patience. Are you opting for surgery or are you going to keep the bump?

bruce,

i don't think i'm gonna do that again. charlie is too much of a spaz.

time and patience is what i have right now. no sense trying to rush things this time of year. haven't decided on surgery vs te bump (i've got a bump right now). i'm gonna go see the regular doc today.

Bring on the off-season!! I wish I had an excuse for being lazy and not riding in the cold....guess I'm just really that lazy!! Heal up!!

Ouch. Good timing is right. Beer and pain killers might get a little interesting though. Hope you heal quickly, just in time for fridged riding:)

pv,

get better dude. guess our 'executive dinner' and ride is out of the question? (at least the ride part).

starting at 6:15 last night, i'm now in full off-season mode. I'll be healed up about the time the real cold and snow hits.

bontrag

with the stuff they have me taking (vicodine), beer is sticly off-limits. i tried not taking one this morning too see how it felt. it hurt!

i can still eat (one handed), but the ride will have to wait. hey, maybe eating one handed will help me lose a few pounds.

Oh man! The injuries are piling in (Emily, now you). I hope no longer being in such close proximity to y'all I can avoid any hex that may be floating around. Although, I know that Black Rock is in my future...Troy said so. Insurance, body armor, full face mask...what else? Perhaps a mattress to wrap my body in.

Get well. I'll be back around the holidays, so if your healed by then, perhaps we can fixie up the gravel for old time's sake.

Take care.

ineb,

i saw the pic of emily on your blog. nasty! i ran into marc and some others at mcfarland on tuesday and he gave me her story. 1/2 hour later i mde my own story. call me a copy cat. i didn't have 200 folk cheering me on. just one stupid dog.

bryan -

yup, cycat is out, unless you got a trainer class . . . even that would be iffy and would piss off the doc and the wife. Gotta save up wife point for the pub crawl (now a drive/stroll for me) next week.

Sorry to hear about the collar bone. At least you got that one last race in before it happened. Take care.

Paul, You don't need two good shoulders to run. Wait a minute that might not feel too good. Heal quickly. Nick Smiley

Wow, that must really hurt. My oldest broke his arm last year and I got phantom pains from it. I can't look at that kind of picture. Too much empathy in me! Get well soon Varnum! Later!

Talk about "cross training". Now you're going to have to drink beer with only one hand for a couple of months.

Maybe work your way up to drinking out of the pitcher directly with the good arm to take full advantage of this excellent cross training opportunity...

bummer, pv. here's to a speedy recovery... pain pills are better when you don't need 'em for the pain!

Paul Varnum said...

bruce -

now that's what i call cross training!

hey em! how you doing? that was one sick video i saw of you going down in minn. i'll bet you got up smiling!

Paully, I just read the news on your blog. Man, so sorry hear about this unfortunate fall. Hope you get to feeling better soon. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you guys.

- This also extends to Kristin and Bruce Reece. That has got to be a tough situation.

Paul Varnum said...

thanks pete. i'm getting better with each day. part of it is learning how to deal with being one-armed.

i do feel for kristin reese. that's got to be tough for them. i wish there was more i could do.

Paul, I am sorry to hear of your crash! That sucks. It sounds like you are having a good attitude about it though.

I hope to see you soon.

op

yes, it sucks, and yes, i'm trying to keep a good attitude about it. I'm sure I'll be seeing you on a gravel road near here in 6-8 weeks.

Looks like your trans-iowa training is coming on strong.
