Seems Like Old Times

It seems like old times cause I went riding with old friends in frickin' cold weather!

My "Ice Tank" with studded tires:

Breakfast before the ride:

These boots are warm. If you are serious about riding in the winter get some some Lakes.

Serious desolation:

My companions for this ride - Cory and OP:

Time hasn't changed this view - OP and I chased Cory up the hills:

More desolation:

One final view with Cory behind me (he had to stop and pee - it wouldn't last). BTW, I need a shave.

Mid 40s will feel like suntan weather! Bring on the gravel slop. You back in Ames? Wanna ride?

Got home to Salem to 40s. Walking around in a t-shirt while locals are wrapped in winter coats. Funny.

BTW, It was good to ride with you again. Take care.

Cory -

Glad you made it home safe. It was very good to ride with the two of you again. It really brought back memories of last winter!

Cory,

What's mountain biking like in Oregon? I'm looking at a job just south of you in Eugene and wondering how much rain and mud is involved.

Just got back from California for a 2 week vacation. Temperatures in the 55 - 57 range during the day and people were bundled up like it was 11 degrees in Iowa. Too funny, but I guess one becomes a creature of the elements based on where they live.

Paul - I like the beard. You're in fashion since Letterman and O'Brien both grew beards during their 2 month hiatus from their shows due to the strike. Are you growing yours for the season, or are you shaving now that work is back in the routine?

Bruce -

From what I've heard, the mountain biking sucks in Oregon.

Cory -

Ixsnay on the ountainmay ikingbay is reatgay on oreaganay.

Signed,
Don't want to lose another friend to Oregon.

P.S. The beard is already history. Christy and I had a brief consult the night B4 I went back to work, and then it was gone. I come from the "Clan of Weak Beards". Two weeks of not shaving and you wouldn't know it.

op, it was great riding with you! Thanks again for the use of your trainer!

Would it be possible for you to email me that picture of myself riding into the great whiteness of winter?

Thanks.

Paul

OP

Picture sent. Glad you liked it.

You getting any use out of the trainer? Mind-numbing isn't it?

Not to worry, Paul. I have an interview, but no offer yet. I think I'm one of 3 or maybe 4 final candidates.

It would be a major change in our life if we did move to Oregon, that's for sure....

Bruce -

Is the job singing or teaching?

I hear you on the major change thing. I've basically had the same job for 25 years. Sure, I've grown, and the job has grown with me, but I've been walking into the same building for 25 years.

I respect you for exploring new horizons. That takes guts.

The job would be a trio of duties - teaching singing/directing opera/performing - at the University of Oregon. I'll be heading out at the end of the month or in early February for the two day interview process.

In the meantime, back to the grind at Simpson tomorrow morning as the 2nd Semester kicks off. This is my 5th year of walking into the same building in Iowa - and I do enjoy it.
